OPERATION STEEL
Potential Sports Leaders Selection Programme
The Sports Leaders Organisation is now recruiting Sec One sports leaders and up to 4 Sec Two Sports Leaders. The Sports Leaders Selection Camp is a camp that is held to assess potential sports leaders. The camp is a vigorous 18 hour programme where invited students will be put through stations and activities. Each station and activity is designed to stretch the participant.
Event: Operation STEEL
Date: 24 – 25 Sep 2010
Time: 6pm (24 Sep) – 12pm (25 Sep)
Location: Tanglin Sec Sch, West Coast Park and Mount Faber
There will be a COMPULSORY pre-camp briefing on Wed 22 Sep 2010, 3pm at E1-04.
Attendance is compulsory.

Latest update in SL...
1. Student Leaders Investiture.
For the first time ever, there will be a student leaders investiture replacing the student council investiture. The prefects (previously student council) and the sports leaders will be recognised in a joint ceremony.
There are currently 13 Sec 3 SLs. Hopefully, all 13 will be able to make it up.
2. Sec 2 Sports Leaders down to 11.

It serves as a reminder that no individual is larger than the organisation, and as student leaders, there are certain roles and responsibilities to be upheld all the time. While SL is an organisation that promotes leadership through fun and games, a LINE still exists.
The door remains open for them to return. We hope so. In fact, for a certain case, the VP ask if it is possible not to drop him but to put him on probation. Mr Wan decided against it as he has to make a stand. Mr Wan and all hope that they can be back. But time is limited and will run out shortly.
Mr Wan is also considering if the cap for SLs for both the sec 1s and 2s should remain at 12 or up to 16.
Any comments and suggestions for the postings are welcomed in the tagboard. Selected postings will be posted on the wall.

I just wana know smth. After writing and writing countless stuff here from ur seniors. I dont hear a response from the current batch of SL's. voice ur comments. nobody is correct / wrong. Everybody got something to learn from each other. so we would like to hear some comments as well. We seniors sound as though we are talking to a wall.

You're welcome Mr Wan. Sports Leaders organization is one that build and nurture new born leaders, in a fun and loving sphere. Its not all about ranting and complaining of the obligations to follow, but to learn from the previous mistakes that have been made, and improve on yourself from those experiences. As said, all it takes is RESPECT, for all. Don't see SL as an extra burden in your secondary school's journey, BUT take it as an opportunity to build up your character to face the world when you've graduated from Tanglin. Be honoured to have this opportunity and cherish it when you still have the chance to. =) Cheers my fellow SL's juniors. -The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.

Guys, I couldn’t agree more. Juniors, the future of SL is now in your hands. Our organization started from nothing with no support from the school nor recognition from anyone. Each batch has to work hard and earn the respect of the teachers and the school. These humble beginning was what make us strive hard and to invest in the organization that all of us are proud to be a part of. If you notice the word Sports Leader, there is the word “LEADER” inside. It is there for a reason! Even when we are not doing duty for SL, all of us are suppose to behave as LEADERS. Each of us went through the selection and training camp, enduring all the stuff we did together as a batch and pulling through it together. Use the lessons that you guys have learnt there to guide you in whatever you do in your own life. I sincerely hope that all of you who have been tasked to carry on the legacy of SL think carefully the reason to be a Sports Leader and ultimately, when without the position of a SL, will you be the same person?

Dear SL's please be mindful of how you behave whether you are in class / out of the school. You guys are student LEADERS & not student LOSERS. how you portray yourself to the school and other students not only reflect on yourself but onto SL as well. We need student leaders who help their peers instead of discouraging and making fun of them. In my time SL's gained the respect of students and not the negative comments of students / teachers. Just remember that SL initially had nothing to begin with. But now you guys enjoyed what each batch of seniors have done to build SL's reputation, SL's legacy. So just be mindful of how you behave as it only takes 1 person to bring down an entire reputation, an entire organization. With that being said I hope you guys would know what to do from now on....

Well said Nick. It takes years to build a well respected organization, and 1 day, to destroy it. Learn to cherish what you have, it's the fruits of your seniors that you're reaping now. Its all about the RESPECT for the organization, your seniors and YOURESELF.
